Abstract: Change is inevitable, but since the 1980s it has become inescapable, and its pace has increased. Religion has not been immune: even when it rejects wider social changes, it has to respond. Even the most traditional religions are reshaped by the conditions in which they find themselves. This paper argues that religion has changed dramatically since 1989.
